Mission San Juan Capistrano

Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded more than two hundred years ago as the 7th of 21 missions statewide, and one with a chapel still standing where Fr. Serra once celebrated Mass. Known as the “Jewel of the Missions,” Mission San Juan Capistrano is a historic landmark and museum that boasts of quality permanent exhibits featuring original artifacts as well as traveling and temporary exhibits on a wide variety of topics. Other family activities available at the mission: Award Winning- Adult Audio Tour: Voices of the Mission Free with adult admission Available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Vietnamese. Features music, history and storytelling about California history and uncovers the Jewel of the missions. Children Audio Tour- Saved by the Mission Bell: A Child’s Journey Through California’s History Free with child admission. Available in English and Spanish. This humorous and imaginative audio tour is designed to engage 4th graders, but appropriate for children of all ages. Guided Tour For individuals wanting to enhance their experience through an interpretive tour. These drop in tours are available Monday through Friday at 11:15 a.m. and 1:00pm, Saturdays at 11:15am and 2:15pm, Sundays at 2:15pm.. They do not require an advance reservation. Minimum group size needed to proceed. Koi Fish Feeding Daily at 12:45pm. $1 per person. Curiosity Carts Every Tuesday & Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Each educational cart offers close-up learning for students and visitors interested in seeing items up close. Items include branding irons, spurs, horseshoes, hides, candles, pottery shards and objects used by the Juaneno Indians. Free with paid admission to the Mission. Native American Basket Weaving Wednesdays (1st & 3rd of each month) 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Experience the art of basket weaving at Mission San Juan Capistrano on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month.
