Bolsa Chica Interpretive Center @ Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve

The Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s Interpretive Center hosts several exhibits within its 1,400 square foot facility. The main room’s exhibits include three salt water aquaria containing several marine life species native to Bolsa Chica and the southern California coast. Throughout the year these species may change, but you can usually find Bat Stars, Ochre Stars, Giant-spined Stars, Warty Sea Cucumbers, Kellet’s Whelks, Chestnut Cowries, Striped Shore Crabs, and even a California Spiny Lobster! Within the main room of exhibits, you can also find interpretive panels with a wide array of information about Bolsa Chica, including wetland ecology, native species, endangered and protected species, human history, and habitat restoration. A second room of exhibits includes live reptiles such as California Kingsnakes, San Diego Gopher Snake, Coastal Rosy Boa, Two-striped Garter Snakes, and Alligator Lizards. Throughout the entire center you will find many different species of taxidermy including opossums, snakes and birds such as the Great Blue Heron, California Brown Pelican, Cooper’s Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Anna’s Hummingbird. The front desk provides handouts about our events and programs, local wildlife, and conservation and pollution issues, and has various merchandise items for sale including Bolsa Chica Pocket Field Guides, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and more! Stop by the Interpretive Center today! Parking: There are two parking lots for the reserve. Parking is free, however please keep in mind that parking in these lots fills up quickly on weekends. There is additional parking in a public lot across from the North Parking Lot near the Huntington Beach Fire Station.
